Lord of Prideaux in the Conquest time Said to have been one of three Prideaux brothers who accompanied William the Conquerer to England fighting in the Battle of Hastings (Norman Conquest) in 1066 A.D. One brother was killed, one returned to Normandy with William, and the third, Paganus, was left in charge of Cornwall. Another source says that PAganuss de Prideaux vel Pridias was Lord of Prideaux near Fowney, co. Cornwall before the Conquest, living at Prideaux Castle.

Per Burke's Commoner of England: The name of Prideaux was adopted by this ancient family from the lordship of Prideaux , in the parish of Luxilian , in the county of Cornwall .
